We Welcome Bus Tour Groups

Here's your opportunity to have a glimpse into the rich history of Kentucky while relaxing on a real-life Kentucky farm. You and your bus tour group are sure to enjoy learning about Kentucky's rich heritage at Jane's Saddlebag.

Many have visited or studied the fossils from this World Heritage Site that is the birthplace of American Paleontology. Local author and co-owner, Nancy Jordan Blackmore, will be your host teaching guests about the History of Big Bone Lick.

Feast on our hearty down-home cooking (see our menu ) in a beautiful outdoor setting as you learn about the fascinating history of the giant mega beasts that once flourished on this land. You'll also hear about Indians that lived in our region and begin to understand their native culture.

After your meal and history lesson, Nancy will answer any questions you may have and then you are free to roam about, exploring this historic ADA equipped facility.

Key interests include:

  • Authentic life-size replica of a circa 1700 Flatboat
  • Historical outbuildings with information about the Mary Ingles Story, Thomas Jefferson, Lewis and Clark, Benjamin Franklin and more
  • 100 year old Mortise and Tenon barn
  • Original smokehouse
  • Restored "Saddlebag House"

Guest will also want to visit our friendly animals in the Petting Zoo. "Tokey" the American Paint Horse from the children's book, The Story of Big Bone Lick, was named "Kentucky Ambassador of Goodwill" and is our main attraction. Other animals include more horses, a donkey, Watusi cow, goats, a pig, llamas, fish, and our livestock guardian dog.

What better way to remember your visit than to purchase a personal copy of The Story of Big Bone Lick and have author Nancy Jordan Blackmore sign it for you right then and there. You will also find a variety of rare and special items in our gift shop so be sure to stop by for plenty of keepsakes before you leave.

We have a large bus turnaround and area for bus parking on site.

Nearby:

Big Bone Lick State Park, one of America's most significant historic and scientific sites, is only 2.5 miles away. For thousands of years, the salt springs at Big Bone Lick attracted ice age mega beasts like the mammoth, mastodon, giant sloth, and primitive people. The "Place of Big Bones" is a Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail Site and includes a gift shop, outdoor museum, Discovery Trail, small herd of Buffalo, camping, fishing and hiking.
